How to Use

Dosage

The dosage is adjusted individually based on your needs for carbohydrates, fluids, and electrolytes, and for children, also by age, weight, and condition.

Method

It is administered as an intravenous infusion (into a vein).

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined individually by your doctor based on your specific needs.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Local reactions at the administration site
  • Local pain
  • Vein irritation
  • Thrombophlebitis (inflammation with a blood clot in a superficial vein)
  • Fluid leakage outside the blood vessel (extravasation)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Normofundin if you are allergic to its ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have too much potassium or fluid in your blood, or if your body is dehydrated.
  • Do not use if you have heart failure or severe kidney failure.
  • Do not use if your blood sugar is high and insulin treatment (more than 6 units/hour) is not enough to control it.
  • Avoid use in children if there is a risk of low blood sodium (hyponatremia).

  • This solution should not be used for dehydration alone, as it can cause low blood sodium, especially in children.
  • Your doctor will monitor your condition closely if you have low blood sodium, kidney impairment, Addison's disease, sickle cell anemia, need to restrict sodium intake, impaired glucose tolerance, or high blood pressure.
