How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet (1.5 mg levonorgestrel).

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew it. Take it as soon as possible, ideally within 12 hours, and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex. If you throw up within 3 hours, take another tablet right away.

Important

You should only take one tablet per event of unprotected sex. Do not take NorLevo more than once in the same menstrual cycle.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Feeling sick (nausea), stomach pain
  • Tender breasts, late or heavy period, bleeding, pain in the uterus
  • Feeling tired
RARE
  • Diarrhea, throwing up (vomiting)
  • Period pain
  • Blood clots
  • Allergic reactions (like swelling of the throat or face, skin rash)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are already pregnant, as it won't stop an existing pregnancy. If you become pregnant after taking NorLevo, contact your doctor.
  • NorLevo is not for regular birth control; it's less effective than regular pills and should only be used in emergencies.
  • This medicine does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • If you are breastfeeding, feed your baby right before taking NorLevo. Wait at least 8 hours before breastfeeding again and throw away any milk pumped during this time.
  • If you feel tired or dizzy, do not drive or use machines.

  • Do not use NorLevo if you are allergic to levonorgestrel or any other ingredients.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking NorLevo if you have a history of ectopic pregnancy, fallopian tube infection, blood clots, severe digestive or liver problems, or Crohn's disease.
  • Take a pregnancy test if your period is more than 5 days late or you have unusual bleeding after using NorLevo.
  • This medicine should not be used before your first period (menarche).
