How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose for adults is 0.2–0.5 mg/day, adjusted individually by your doctor, while children's dosage is based on weight and surface area.

Method

Inject your daily dose under the skin every evening just before bedtime.

Important

The typical maximum daily dose for adults is 1.0 mg/day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache.
  • Redness, itching, and pain at the injection site.
  • Breast enlargement in males (gynecomastia).
  • Swelling in hands and feet due to too much fluid.
  • Tingling, numbness, or pain, mainly in the fingers (can be carpal tunnel syndrome).
  • Joint pain and stiffness, muscle pain, or muscle stiffness.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
RARE
  • Rash, wheezing, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, and fainting (signs of a serious allergic reaction).
  • Headache, vision problems, nausea, and vomiting (signs of increased pressure in the brain).
  • Lower levels of thyroid hormone (thyroxine) in your blood.
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
  • Rash (not as part of a severe allergic reaction).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to somatropin, phenol, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had a kidney transplant.
  • Do not use if you have active cancer; cancer treatment must be finished before starting this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have an acute critical condition, such as recent open-heart surgery, abdominal surgery, severe injuries, or severe breathing problems.
  • Do not use if your growth has stopped (growth plates are closed) and you do not have growth hormone deficiency.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had cancer or any other type of tumor.
  • Tell your doctor if you have recurring headaches, vision problems, nausea, or vomiting, as these could be signs of increased brain pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems.
  • During treatment, your doctor will check you (or your child) for signs of scoliosis (sideways curvature of the spine).
  • Tell your doctor if you limp or start limping during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you are over 60 years old or have received growth hormone treatment as an adult for more than 5 years.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, as your kidney function needs to be checked.
  • Tell your doctor if you are receiving glucocorticoid treatment, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • This medicine can cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), which causes severe abdominal and back pain. Contact your doctor if you experience this.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy without discussing with your doctor.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding, as the medicine may pass into breast milk.
