How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the dose for children and adults; for adults, a typical starting dose is 0.1-0.5 mg daily, adjusted until correct.

Method

Inject your daily dose under the skin every evening just before bedtime.

Important

For adults, the usual maximum dose is 1.0 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Swelling in hands and feet due to fluid retention.
  • Headache.
  • Tingling, numbness, or pain mainly in the fingers.
  • Joint pain and stiffness, muscle pain.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction, such as rash, wheezing, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, and feeling faint. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Symptoms of high pressure in the brain, such as severe headache, vision problems, nausea, and vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Redness, itching, and pain at the injection site.
  • Enlarged breasts (gynecomastia).
  • Rash.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (tingling and pain in the fingers and hands).
  • Muscle stiffness.
  • Decreased thyroid hormone (thyroxine) levels.
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to somatropin or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have active cancer or have recently finished cancer treatment.
  • Do not use if you have a severe acute illness, such as major surgery or severe breathing problems.
  • Do not use if your growth has stopped and you do not have growth hormone deficiency.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience severe headaches, vision problems, nausea, or vomiting.

  • If you experience limping or hip/knee pain during treatment, tell your doctor.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney disease, or thyroid problems.
  • If you develop severe stomach or back pain, it could be pancreatitis. Contact your doctor right away.
