How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact daily dose, which varies based on your age, weight, and condition.

Method

Inject your daily dose under the skin every evening right before bedtime.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose for adults is 1.0 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Swelling of hands and feet due to fluid retention
  • Headache
  • Tingling, numbness, or pain, mainly in fingers
  • Joint pain and stiffness, muscle pain
  • Redness, itching, and pain at the injection site
  • Enlargement of breasts (gynecomastia)
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (tingling and pain in fingers and hands)
  • Muscle stiffness
RARE
  • Rash, wheezing, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, and fainting (signs of a severe allergic reaction)
  • Headache, vision problems, nausea, and vomiting (signs of increased pressure in the brain)
  • Decreased blood thyroxine level
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to somatropin, phenol, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have active cancer; treatment must be completed before starting this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have an acute, severe illness such as open heart surgery, abdominal surgery, severe injuries, or acute breathing problems.
  • Do not use if your growth has stopped (growth plates are closed) and you do not have growth hormone deficiency.
  • If you become pregnant, stop treatment and talk to your doctor immediately.

  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding, as the medicine may pass into breast milk.
  • Never share your pen or needles with anyone to avoid infections.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience recurrent headaches, vision problems, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Tell your doctor if you start limping or experience hip or knee pain.
  • Contact your doctor if you or your child experience severe stomach or back pain, as this could be a sign of pancreatitis.
