How to Use
Dosage
Your doctor will tell you exactly how much medicine to use, as the dose depends on your weight, body surface area, and growth hormone needs.
Method
Inject your daily dose under the skin every evening just before bedtime.
Important
The usual maximum daily dose for adults is 1.0 mg. For children, your doctor will determine the maximum dose.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache
- •Swelling in hands and feet due to fluid retention
- •Tingling, numbness, or pain, especially in fingers
- •Joint and muscle pain or stiffness
- •Redness, itching, or pain at the injection site
- •Breast enlargement (gynecomastia)
RARE
- •Severe allergic reaction (rash, wheezing, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, fainting)
- •High pressure in the brain (headache, vision problems, nausea, vomiting)
- •Low thyroid hormone levels
- •High blood sugar
- •Type 2 diabetes
- •Carpal tunnel syndrome
Important Warnings
- Do not use if you are allergic to somatropin, phenol, or any other ingredients.
- Do not use if you have active cancer.
- Seek immediate medical help if you experience repeated headaches, vision problems, nausea, or vomiting, as these can be signs of high pressure in the brain.
- Seek immediate medical help if you get severe stomach or back pain, which could be a sign of pancreas inflammation.
- Never share your pen or needles with anyone else to prevent infections.
