How to Use

Dosage

For children, your doctor will determine the dose based on their weight or body surface area. For adults, the usual starting dose is 0.2-0.5 mg daily, adjusted by your doctor. If growth hormone deficiency starts in adulthood, the usual starting dose is 0.1-0.3 mg daily.

Method

Inject your daily dose under the skin every evening right before bedtime.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 1.0 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Rash, wheezing, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, and fainting (signs of an allergic reaction).
  • Headache, vision problems, nausea, and vomiting (signs of increased pressure in the brain).
  • Lower thyroid hormone levels.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Swelling in hands and feet due to fluid buildup.
  • Tingling, numbness, or pain, mainly in the fingers.
  • Joint pain and stiffness, muscle pain.
RARE
  • Redness, itching, and pain at the injection site.
  • Breast enlargement (gynecomastia).
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome, with tingling and pain in fingers and hands.
  • Muscle stiffness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to somatropin, phenol, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have had a kidney transplant.
  • Do not use if you have active cancer; cancer treatment must be finished before starting this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a severe critical illness, such as open-heart surgery, abdominal surgery, multiple injuries from an accident, or acute breathing problems.
  • Do not use if you have stopped growing (growth plates are closed) and do not have growth hormone deficiency.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have diabetes.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have ever had cancer or any other type of tumor.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have repeated headaches, vision problems, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have thyroid problems.
  • Increased sideways curving of the spine (scoliosis) can happen in children during rapid growth. Your doctor will check for signs of scoliosis during Norditropin FlexPro treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you start to limp during growth hormone treatment.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are over 60 years old or have been treated with somatropin as an adult for more than 5 years (limited experience).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney disease; your doctor will need to check your kidney function.
  • See your doctor often if you are on replacement glucocorticoid treatment, as your glucocorticoid dose may need to be changed.
  • Norditropin FlexPro can cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), leading to severe stomach and back pain. Contact your doctor if you or your child gets stomach pain after using Norditropin FlexPro.
