How to Use

Dosage

The initial dose is 0.4–0.8 mg of noradrenaline per hour. The dosage is adjusted individually by a doctor to achieve normal blood pressure.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give this medication in the hospital as a diluted infusion directly into a vein. It should not be mixed with other medicines.

Important

The dose is continuously adjusted to maintain normal blood pressure, typically a systolic pressure of 100-120 mmHg or a mean arterial pressure of 65-80 mmHg, depending on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Difficulty breathing or irregular breathing.
  • Fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, or palpitations.
  • Chest or throat pain.
COMMON
  • Anxiety, trouble sleeping, confusion, headache, feeling detached from reality, weakness, shaking, reduced alertness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Pale skin, sweating, sensitivity to light.
  • Tissue damage (gangrene, skin necrosis), causing painful, cold limbs that may turn purple or black, especially if the infusion is not given directly into a vein.
  • Acute glaucoma (high eye pressure).
  • Skin scarring, bluish skin, hot flashes, red skin, rash, hives, or itching.
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to noradrenaline or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if your low blood pressure is due to low blood volume (not enough blood in your body).
  • Do not take if you are using certain anesthetics like halothane or cyclopropane, as this can increase the risk of heart rhythm problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe left heart failure (a serious heart condition).
  • Tell your doctor if you have blood clots in your heart, intestines, or limbs.
