How to Use

Dosage

The initial dose is usually 0.05-0.15 micrograms per kg per minute, and the maintenance dose ranges from 0.05-1.5 micrograms per kg per minute.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine in the hospital as an infusion directly into a central vein.

Important

The dose depends on your condition and is titrated to normalize blood pressure. There is no specified maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Anxiety
  • Headache, tremor
  • Acute glaucoma (high pressure in the eye)
  • Fast or slow heart rate, irregular heartbeats, palpitations, increased heart muscle contraction, acute heart failure
  • High blood pressure, tissue hypoxia (reduced oxygen supply to organs), coldness and paleness of limbs and face, pain and coldness in limbs (gangrene)
  • Respiratory failure or difficulty, shortness of breath
  • Vomiting
  • Urinary retention (difficulty emptying bladder)
  • Local irritation and tissue damage (necrosis) at the injection site
RARE
  • Severe blood vessel constriction in limbs and internal organs
  • Reduced blood flow to the kidneys
  • Decreased urine production
  • Lack of oxygen (hypoxia)
  • Increased lactate levels in blood
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Photophobia (abnormal sensitivity to light)
  • Chest pain (behind the breastbone)
  • Throat pain (sore throat)
  • Paleness
  • Intense sweating
  • Vomiting

Important Warnings

  • This medicine must not be given through small blood vessels in your hand or foot.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to noradrenaline or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a severe heart condition (left ventricular dysfunction, recent heart attack, or irregular heartbeats).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or diabetes.
  • Talk to your doctor if your low blood pressure is caused by a low blood volume.

  • Do not use this medicine if the solution is darker than light yellow or pink, or if it contains particles.
