Nocdurna

Nocdurna contains desmopressin, an antidiuretic medicine used to treat nocturia (frequent nighttime urination) caused by overproduction of urine at night in adults.

How to Use

Dosage

Women: 25 micrograms daily, one hour before bedtime. Men: 50 micrograms daily, one hour before bedtime.

Method

Place the tablet under your tongue where it will dissolve without water. Do not chew or swallow the tablet.

Important

Do not take more than the prescribed dose in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Feeling unwell (malaise)
  • Muscle weakness and confusion due to low blood sodium (hyponatremia)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain or stomach discomfort
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Swelling in the legs and feet (peripheral edema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Nocdurna if you are allergic to desmopressin or any other ingredient.
  • Avoid Nocdurna if you have excessive thirst (polydipsia), heart failure, moderate to severe kidney problems, low sodium levels, or a hormone disorder called SIADH.
  • You must limit your fluid intake for at least 1 hour before taking Nocdurna and for 8 hours after.
  • Stop treatment and contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe or prolonged headache, confusion, unexplained weight gain, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Inform your doctor if you are over 65 years old, have low blood sodium, difficulty urinating, bladder problems, or any conditions that affect your body's fluid and salt balance.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
