How to Use

Dosage

For flaky, reddish-brown patches on face/chest or dandruff: use twice a week for 2-4 weeks. To prevent recurrence, use once a week or every other week. For small, brownish/light spots on body (pityriasis versicolor): use once a day for 1 day.

Method

Wash affected skin areas and hair with Nizoral shampoo. Let it work for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. A palmful of shampoo is usually enough for one wash.

Important

Do not use more than once a day for 1 day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Allergic reactions
  • Changes in taste
  • Inflamed hair follicles
  • Eye irritation, increased tear production
  • Acne, dry skin
  • Hair loss, changes in hair structure
  • Burning feeling on skin, rash, peeling skin, skin irritation from contact
  • Skin reactions at the treated area (redness, irritation, itching, allergic reactions, or small bumps with pus)
RARE
  • Hives (itchy red welts)
  • Changes in hair color
  • Sudden swelling of the skin or soft tissues, especially around the eyes, face, or lips

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredient. Allergy symptoms include itchy and red skin.
  • Avoid getting shampoo in your eyes. If it gets in your eyes, rinse them well with water.
  • Hair loss can occur during treatment for dandruff and seborrhoeic eczema, which Nizoral shampoo is often used for.
  • If you have used strong skin creams (corticosteroids) on the same area, gradually stop using them over 2-3 weeks to avoid worsening skin issues. You can start using Nizoral shampoo during this time.
  • Nizoral shampoo contains butylhydroxytoluene, which may cause local skin reactions (like contact dermatitis) or irritate eyes and mucous membranes.

  • Do not swallow Nizoral shampoo. If swallowed by mistake, contact a doctor or poison control center.
  • If the shampoo causes you side effects, stop using it.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
