Nilotinib Zentiva is used to treat a type of blood cancer called chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), where the body makes too many abnormal white blood cells.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 600 mg per day, taken as two 150 mg capsules twice a day for newly diagnosed patients.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Take them two hours after eating and wait one hour before your next meal. Do not open the capsules.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 800 mg.

  • Diarrhea

  • Hair loss
  • Upper respiratory infection, like a cold or sore throat
RARE
  • Pneumonia (lung infection)
  • Abdominal pain, discomfort after eating, gas, or a bloated stomach
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling sad, or anxious
  • Nosebleeds
  • Joint pain and swelling (signs of gout)
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Bronchitis (inflammation of airways)
  • Ringing or humming in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Watery, itchy, red, and swollen eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • High blood pressure

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor right away if you faint or have an irregular heartbeat, as these can be signs of a serious heart problem.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have chest pain, numbness or weakness in your arms or legs, or if you have trouble walking or speaking, as these can be signs of a serious heart or blood vessel problem.
  • Tell your doctor if your feet or hands swell, you have general swelling, or you gain weight quickly, as these can be signs of fluid build-up.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience sudden heart palpitations, severe muscle weakness, paralysis, seizures, or sudden changes in your thinking, as these may indicate rapid breakdown of cancer cells.
