How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of gum when you feel like smoking, usually one piece every 1-2 hours at the start. 8-12 pieces per day is a typical dose.

Method

Do not swallow the gum. Chew slowly until the taste is strong, then rest the gum between your cheek and gum. Chew again when the taste fades, and repeat for about 30 minutes.

Important

Do not use more than 24 pieces of 2mg gum or 15 pieces of 4mg gum per day. Do not use more than one piece per hour.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you do not smoke.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any heart problems, such as a recent heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or chest pain. If your heart problems get worse, you should reduce the dose or stop using the medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have had a stroke.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have high blood pressure.

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have diabetes. Monitor your blood sugar levels more often, as your need for insulin or other medications may change.

  • Chewing the gum may be difficult if you have jaw problems or dentures. It may loosen fillings or implants. Other nicotine replacement products might be better for you.
  • Do not smoke while using Nicotinell gum, as this can lead to very high nicotine levels and make you feel sick.
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Even small amounts of nicotine can be dangerous or even deadly for children. Not for use by children under 12 years old. Teenagers aged 12-17 should only use it if a healthcare professional has prescribed it.
  • Only for Nicotinell Licorice gum: If you are sensitive to licorice, large or long-term use of Nicotinell Licorice gum may cause high blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat.
  • Stop using Nicotinell gum and contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, or trouble breathing.
