How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of gum when you feel like smoking, usually every 1-2 hours. Most people use 8-12 pieces per day, depending on how strong your nicotine addiction is.

Method

Do not swallow the gum. Chew slowly until the taste gets strong. Then, rest the gum between your cheek and gum. Chew again when the taste fades. Repeat this for about 30 minutes.

Important

Do not use more than 24 pieces of 2 mg gum or 15 pieces of 4 mg gum per day. Do not use more than one piece per hour.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you do not smoke.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems, especially if you recently had a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or chest pain. If your heart problems worsen, reduce the dose or stop using the gum.
  • Consult your doctor if you have had a stroke, high blood pressure, circulation problems, diabetes (monitor blood sugar closely), overactive thyroid, an adrenal gland tumor, kidney or liver problems, inflammation of the esophagus, mouth, or stomach, stomach ulcer, or epilepsy.
  • If you have jaw problems or wear dentures, Nicotinell gum might be hard to chew and could loosen fillings or implants. Consider other nicotine replacement options.
  • Do not smoke while using Nicotinell gum, as this can lead to too much nicotine and make you feel sick.

  • Keep Nicotinell gum out of reach and sight of children, as even small amounts of nicotine can be dangerous or even deadly for them. Not for children under 12. Teenagers 12-17 should only use this with a doctor's advice.
  • Avoid coffee, acidic drinks, and soft drinks for 15 minutes before chewing the gum, as they can reduce nicotine absorption. Do not eat or drink while the gum is in your mouth.
  • If you are pregnant, it is very important to stop smoking. If you cannot stop without help, use Nicotinell only after talking to your doctor.
  • If you are breastfeeding, nicotine can pass into breast milk. If your doctor recommends Nicotinell, take it right after breastfeeding or at least two hours before.
  • If you use licorice-flavored gum and don't tolerate licorice, long-term use can raise blood pressure and cause irregular heartbeat.
  • If you have a sugar intolerance or hereditary fructose intolerance, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This gum contains butylhydroxytoluene (E321), which may cause skin reactions (like contact eczema) or eye/mucous membrane irritation.
