How to Use

Dosage

Typically, one lozenge can be used every hour or every two hours.

Method

Place one lozenge in your mouth when you feel a strong urge to smoke. Suck it until you feel a strong taste, then rest it between your cheek and gum. When the taste fades, start sucking again. Repeat until the lozenge is fully dissolved (about 30 minutes). Do not eat or drink while the lozenge is in your mouth, and avoid coffee, acidic drinks, or soft drinks 15 minutes before use.

Important

Do not use more than 15 lozenges (2 mg strength) per day, and no more than one lozenge per hour.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are not a smoker.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using if you have any heart problems (e.g., recent heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or chest pain). If your heart problems worsen, reduce or stop using this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have had a stroke.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have high blood pressure.

  • If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar more often when you start using these lozenges, as your need for insulin or other medications may change.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have an overactive thyroid.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have a tumor on your adrenal gland.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have kidney or liver disease.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have inflammation of the esophagus, mouth, throat, stomach (gastritis), or a stomach/duodenal ulcer.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have had epilepsy (seizures).
  • Teenagers aged 12-17 should only use Nicotinell Mint lozenges if a healthcare professional has prescribed them. The amount of nicotine tolerated by adults can cause severe poisoning in small children and can even be fatal. Always keep Nicotinell Mint lozenges out of reach and sight of children. Not for children under 12.
  • It is very important to avoid smoking during pregnancy as it can harm the baby. If you cannot quit smoking without nicotine replacement, use Nicotinell Mint only after talking to a healthcare professional. Avoid using Nicotinell Mint while breastfeeding, as nicotine passes into breast milk and can affect the baby. If advised to use it while breastfeeding, take the lozenge immediately after feeding or at least two hours before the next feeding.
  • Stop using Nicotinell Mint and contact a doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of a severe allergic reaction (such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, and difficulty breathing). These side effects are rare.
