How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of chewing gum when you want to smoke. At the start, you'll usually need a gum every 1 to 2 hours.

Method

Don't swallow the gum. Chew it slowly until you taste it strongly. Then, put it between your cheek and gum. Chew again when the taste gets weaker. Do this for about 30 minutes.

Important

Do not use more than 24 pieces of 2 mg gum or 15 pieces of 4 mg gum in one day. Do not use more than one piece of gum per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion or heartburn, gas, hiccups, constipation
  • Inflammation or uncomfortable feeling in the mouth, sore throat, dry mouth, pain in mouth, throat, or jaw muscles
  • Headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Cough
RARE
  • Fast heartbeat (palpitations), irregular heart rhythm
  • Red rash, itching, hives (itchy bumps on skin), severe allergic reaction (hypersensitivity reaction)
  • Increased saliva, difficulty swallowing, burping, shaking (tremor), mouth sores, shortness of breath, weakness, tiredness, general feeling of being unwell, flu-like symptoms

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, or chest pain. If your heart problems get worse while using this gum, use less or stop using it completely.
  • Talk to your doctor before using this gum if you have had a stroke, high blood pressure, circulation issues, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, a tumor in your adrenal gland, kidney or liver disease, inflammation in your food pipe, mouth, throat, or stomach, a stomach ulcer, or epilepsy.
  • Do not smoke while using this gum, as combining nicotine from smoking and the gum can make you feel very sick.
  • Keep Nicotinell gum away from children. Even a small amount of nicotine can be very dangerous for children and could even be deadly.
  • Wait 15 minutes after drinking coffee, acidic drinks, or soft drinks before chewing the gum. Also, don't eat or drink while you have the gum in your mouth, as these can stop the nicotine from being absorbed properly.
