How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of gum when you feel a strong urge to smoke, usually 8–12 pieces per day.

Method

Do not swallow the gum. Chew a piece slowly until the taste is strong. Then rest it between your cheek and gum. Chew again when the taste fades. Repeat this for about 30 minutes.

Important

Do not use more than 24 pieces (2 mg) or 15 pieces (4 mg) per day. Do not use more than one piece per hour.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Nicotinell Icemint if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you do not smoke.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have heart problems (e.g., a recent heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or chest pain). If your heart problems get worse, you must reduce the dose or stop using this medicine entirely.
  • If you have had a stroke.
  • If you have high blood pressure.
  • If you have circulation problems.

  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar more often as your insulin or other medication needs may change.
  • If you have an overactive thyroid.
  • If you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
  • If you have kidney and/or liver problems.
  • If you have inflammation of the esophagus, mouth or throat, gastritis, or stomach ulcers.
  • If you have a history of epilepsy or seizures.
  • Do not smoke while using Nicotinell Icemint, as high nicotine levels can make you feel sick.
  • Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children. Even small amounts of nicotine can be dangerous for children and may cause severe symptoms or death. Do not use for children under 12 years. Adolescents aged 12-17 should only use this medicine if prescribed by a healthcare professional.
  • If you have jaw joint problems or wear dentures, chewing gum might be difficult or dislodge fillings/implants; consider other nicotine replacement options.
  • Avoid coffee, acidic drinks, and soft drinks 15 minutes before chewing gum, and do not eat or drink while chewing, as they can reduce nicotine absorption.
  • If you are pregnant, it is very important to stop smoking. Only use Nicotinell after consulting a healthcare professional if you cannot quit without nicotine products.
  • Avoid using Nicotinell Icemint while breastfeeding, as nicotine passes into breast milk. If recommended by a healthcare professional, take the gum right after breastfeeding or at least two hours before the next feeding.
