How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of gum when you feel a strong urge to smoke. At the start of treatment, typically take one piece of gum every 1-2 hours. Usually, 8-12 pieces of gum per day are sufficient.

Method

Do not swallow the gum. Chew slowly until the taste is strong. Place the gum between your cheek and gum. When the taste fades, chew again. Continue this for about 30 minutes. Avoid coffee and acidic drinks 15 minutes before and while the gum is in your mouth.

Important

Maximum 24 pieces of 2 mg gum or 15 pieces of 4 mg gum per day. Do not use more than one piece of gum per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON

  • Stomach ache, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, gas
  • Headache, dizziness, insomnia, cough, dry mouth
RARE
  • Heart palpitations
  • Red skin rash, itching, hives
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you do not smoke.
  • Talk to a doctor if you have heart problems, such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, high blood pressure, stroke, or circulation problems.
  • Talk to a doctor if you have diabetes, overactive thyroid, adrenal gland tumor, kidney or liver disease, inflammation of the esophagus or stomach, stomach ulcer, or epilepsy.
  • If you have jaw problems or dentures, the gum might be difficult to chew or could dislodge fillings or implants.
  • Do not smoke while using this gum, as it can lead to too much nicotine and make you feel unwell.

  • Teenagers under 18 should only use Nicotinell if prescribed by a doctor. Keep gum out of reach of children; even small amounts can be dangerous.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to a doctor before use. Quitting smoking without nicotine replacement is best. If you use while breastfeeding, take the gum right after feeding or at least two hours before the next feeding.
