How to Use

Dosage

Take one piece of gum when you feel the urge to smoke. At the start of treatment, you can take a piece every 1-2 hours. Typically 8-12 pieces per day are sufficient.

Method

Do not swallow the gum. Chew slowly until the taste intensifies, then move the gum between your cheek and gum, chew again when the taste fades, and repeat for about 30 minutes.

Important

Maximum 24 pieces of 2 mg gum or 15 pieces of 4 mg gum per day; do not use more than one piece per hour.

Possible Side Effects

  • Mouth and throat irritation or pain, dry mouth, jaw muscle pain
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, heartburn, gas, constipation, hiccups, belching
  • Headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping

  • Palpitations, irregular heartbeat
  • Skin rash, itching, hives, allergic reactions (like swelling of face or throat, trouble swallowing)
  • Increased saliva, difficulty swallowing
  • Tremor, mouth sores
  • Shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, feeling generally unwell, flu-like symptoms

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to nicotine or any of its ingredients, or if you do not smoke.
  • Talk to a doctor before use if you have heart problems (such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain), high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney or liver problems, or a stomach ulcer.
  • Do not smoke while using Nicotinell gum, as it can cause nausea.
  • Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children, as even small amounts of nicotine can be dangerous and lead to a child's death; not for children under 12 years.
  • Avoid drinking coffee, acidic drinks, and soft drinks 15 minutes before and during chewing the gum, as they can reduce nicotine absorption.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use Nicotinell gum only if recommended by a healthcare professional.
  • If you are intolerant to licorice (only for Nicotinell Licorice gum), high or long-term use can lead to increased blood pressure and irregular heartbeat.
  • The gum may stick to dentures or dislodge fillings or implants; if you have dental problems, consider another form of nicotine replacement therapy.
  • If you have fructose intolerance, talk to your doctor before using this medicine, as it contains sorbitol.
