How to Use

Dosage

One patch daily. Start with 21mg if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, or 14mg if you smoke less than 20 a day. Reduce to a lower strength (14mg, then 7mg) after 3-4 weeks.

Method

Apply one patch to clean, dry, hairless skin on your chest, back, upper arm, or hip. Press firmly for 10-20 seconds. Do not apply to the same spot two days in a row; wait one week before reusing a spot. Wash your hands after applying.

Important

Do not use Nicotinell patches for more than 3 months.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Skin reactions at the application site, such as redness, itching, burning, or tingling. These usually go away quickly after removing the patch.
  • Sleep disturbances, including trouble sleeping and unusual dreams.
  • Headache

  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat)

  • Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmias)
  • Skin sensitivity to light (photosensitivity)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient.
  • This product is not for non-smokers.
  • If you have recently had a heart attack, stroke, or have severe heart rhythm problems, try to quit smoking without patches unless your doctor advises otherwise. Contact your healthcare professional if your heart problems worsen.
  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar more often as your insulin or medication needs may change.
  • Do not use if you have kidney or liver problems.

  • Do not use if you have a history of epileptic seizures.
  • If you have stomach/duodenal ulcers or inflammation of the esophagus, nicotine replacement therapy may worsen your symptoms.
  • Stop using the patch and contact a healthcare professional if your skin becomes red, swollen, or develops a rash. This is more likely if you have atopic or contact dermatitis.
  • Never smoke while using Nicotinell patches, as nicotine levels will become too high and make you feel sick.
  • Used patches still contain nicotine and are dangerous for children. Keep all medicines out of sight and reach of children.
  • Nicotinell patches contain aluminum. Do not use during an MRI scan as the aluminum can heat up and cause burns.
  • Do not use if you are under 18 years old without a healthcare professional's recommendation.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, nicotine can harm your baby. Do not use Nicotinell during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless quitting smoking without nicotine replacement fails, and always consult your doctor first.
