How to Use

Dosage

Apply one patch daily; the strength chosen depends on your smoking habits.

Method

Apply the patch to clean, dry, hairless, healthy skin on your chest, back, upper arm, or hip, pressing firmly for 10-20 seconds.

Important

Do not use more than one patch per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Skin reactions at the application site (redness, itching, burning, stinging), which usually disappear quickly.
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia, unusual dreams).
  • Headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting.
  • Nervousness, tremors, palpitations.
  • Shortness of breath, sore throat or swollen pharynx, cough.
  • Digestive problems, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation, increased sweating.
  • Contact eczema, joint or muscle pain, fatigue or weakness, pain at the application site.
RARE
  • Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), general malaise, flu-like symptoms.
  • Arrhythmias.
  • Skin photosensitivity.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to nicotine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Nicotinell is not for non-smokers.
  • If you recently had a heart attack, stroke, or have severe heart rhythm problems, try to quit smoking without nicotine patches unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar more often than usual when using nicotine patches, as your insulin or medication needs may change.
  • If you have heart problems, do not use nicotine patches with nicotine lozenges unless a healthcare professional recommends it.

  • Do not use if you have kidney or liver problems.
  • Do not use if you have ever had epileptic seizures.
  • Do not use if you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer or inflammation of the esophagus, as nicotine replacement therapy may worsen symptoms.
  • Never smoke at the same time as using Nicotinell, as this can lead to very high nicotine levels and make you feel unwell.
  • Used nicotine patches still contain nicotine and are harmful to children. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use the patch during an MRI scan, as the aluminum in Nicotinell patches can heat up and cause burns.
  • Individuals under 18 years of age should not use Nicotinell without a healthcare professional's recommendation.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine, as nicotine can harm the baby. Only use if quitting smoking without nicotine replacement therapy is not possible.
  • Stop using Nicotinell and contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe allergic reactions (sudden wheezing, chest tightness, rash, or weakness), a fast or irregular heartbeat, or if your skin becomes severely red, swollen, or you get a rash.
