How to Use

Dosage

Take as prescribed by your doctor. The doctor will adjust the dosage based on your condition and age. Usually starting with a low dose, then increasing gradually.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole or divided with water, during or after meals or on an empty stomach. Do not chew or crush.

Important

The maximum daily dose will be determined by your doctor.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to oxcarbazepine or any other medication (rashes or allergic symptoms).
  • Serious skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis) have been reported with carbamazepine. Stop taking and seek medical advice immediately if you have skin symptoms.
  • If you develop symptoms such as fever, sore throat, rash, bruising, mouth ulcers, stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical attention.
  • Using Neurotol during pregnancy can harm the fetus. Women who can become pregnant must use effective contraception during treatment and for two weeks after the last dose.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Hyponatraemia is a common adverse effect. Numerous potential adverse effects, such as hematological changes and risk of hepatic injury. May increase the need for a vitamin D supplement. Consider the numerous potential and significant interactions before starting and discontinuing the use. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 10.11.2025)
