How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose, usually starting with 6-18 ml (300-900 mg) daily, gradually increasing up to a maximum of 72 ml (3600 mg) per day, split into three doses (morning, afternoon, evening). For children aged 6 and older, the dose is based on body weight and typically given in three daily doses.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth using the provided oral syringe. It can be taken with or without food.

The maximum daily dose for adults is 72 ml (3600 mg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection, pneumonia, respiratory infections, urinary tract infection, ear infection, or other infections
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, or lack of coordination
  • Tiredness or fever
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite or increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood changes, depression, anxiety, nervousness, or difficulty thinking
  • Seizures, jerky movements, speech problems, memory loss, tremors, insomnia, headache, skin sensitivity, numbness, coordination problems, abnormal eye movements, or increased/decreased/absent reflexes
  • Blurred vision or double vision
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • High blood pressure, flushing, or blood vessel widening
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, or dry nose
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, or gas
  • Swelling of the face, bruising, rash, itching, or acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, or muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling in arms and legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, or flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fractures, or scrapes
  • Aggressive behavior or jerky movements (in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (restlessness or involuntary, purposeless movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Decreased movement
  • Heart palpitations
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Swelling that can affect the face, upper body, and limbs
  • Abnormal blood tests indicating liver problems
  • Mental impairment or psychiatric disorders
  • Falls
  • Increased blood sugar (most common in diabetics)
  • Decreased blood sugar (most common in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties or shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased blood platelets (cells involved in blood clotting)
  • Suicidal thoughts or hallucinations
  • Abnormal movements, such as writhing, jerky movements, or stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice) or liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure or urinary incontinence
  • Increased breast tissue or breast enlargement
  • Withdrawal symptoms after suddenly stopping gabapentin treatment (anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating), or chest pain
  • Muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatine phosphokinase level)
  • Sexual dysfunction, including inability to achieve orgasm or delayed ejaculation
  • Low blood sodium
  • Drug dependence (addiction to Neurisol)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Neurisol if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • If you are on dialysis, tell your doctor if you experience muscle pain or weakness.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Inform your doctor if you have nervous system problems, breathing difficulties, or are over 65, as your dose may need adjustment.

  • If you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, tell your doctor, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on Neurisol.
  • If you have thoughts of self-harm or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking Neurisol and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin rashes, redness, blisters, peeling skin, mouth sores, or fever, as these can be serious allergic reactions (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or DRESS).
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with fever or feeling unwell, as this could indicate a serious muscle problem that can harm your kidneys.
  • Be aware that Neurisol can cause dependence. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about this.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine, as special monitoring may be required.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking opioid pain medicines, as Neurisol can increase their effects, leading to severe drowsiness or breathing problems.
  • Take Neurisol at least two hours after antacids containing aluminum and magnesium, as these can reduce its absorption.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions.
  • Benzyl alcohol can cause serious side effects, including breathing problems, in young children.
