How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how many capsules to take and how often, usually once a week.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, do not chew or suck them. It's best to take them with food to help prevent nausea. Do not take with hot drinks. If you accidentally chew or suck a capsule, rinse your mouth well and contact your doctor immediately. If you vomit within a few hours of taking Navelbine, do not take another dose.

Important

Do not exceed a total dose of 160 mg per week.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections in different parts of the body.
  • Stomach issues, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting.
  • Inflammation in the mouth (mouth sores).
  • Low red blood cells, which can make your skin pale, cause weakness or shortness of breath.
  • Low platelets, which can increase the risk of bleeding or bruising.
  • Low white blood cells, which increases the risk of infections.
  • Loss of some reflexes, occasional changes in touch sensation, difficulty coordinating muscle movements.
  • Hair loss (usually mild).
  • Tiredness, feeling unwell, weakness.
  • Fever, chills, shivering.
  • Weight loss, loss of appetite, weight gain.
  • Changes in vision.
  • Shortness of breath, cough.
  • Difficulty urinating, other genital and urinary tract symptoms.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Esophagus inflammation, difficulty swallowing food or liquids.
  • Skin reactions.
  • Joint pain, jaw pain, muscle pain, pain in various parts of the body and at the tumor site.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Liver disorders (abnormal liver function test results).
RARE
  • Heart failure, which can cause shortness of breath or swollen ankles, irregular heartbeat.
  • Problems with body movements, possibly including unusual walking, changes in speech, or unusual eye movements (ataxia).
  • Blood poisoning (sepsis), with symptoms like high fever or a worsening general condition.
  • Heart attack.
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, causing weakness, muscle twitching, tiredness, confusion, and unconsciousness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to vinorelbine, other similar cancer medicines (vinca alkaloids), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not breastfeed during Navelbine treatment.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe digestive problem that affects nutrient absorption, or if part of your stomach or small intestine has been surgically removed.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have low white blood cells or platelets, or if you have a severe infection now or have had one in the past two weeks.
  • Tell your doctor if you plan to get or have recently received a yellow fever vaccine, or any other live vaccines (like measles, mumps, rubella), as these are not recommended during Navelbine treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you are on long-term oxygen therapy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of severe chest pain, or signs of heart problems due to poor blood flow (ischemic heart disease), like angina or a heart attack.
  • Tell your doctor if your ability to do daily activities is greatly reduced.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had radiation therapy that included your liver.
  • Tell your doctor if you have signs of an infection (like fever, chills, cough).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe liver disease not related to your cancer.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Women who can get pregnant and men who can father children must use effective birth control during treatment and for some time after.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, and fainting, which could be signs of a blood clot in the lung.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience headache, changes in mental state (confusion, coma), seizures, blurred vision, and high blood pressure, which could be signs of a serious brain disorder.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience feeling ill, cough, fever, and chills, which could mean a severe infection.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe constipation and stomach pain if you haven't had a bowel movement for several days, possibly a bowel obstruction.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe dizziness and lightheadedness when standing up, which could be a sign of a sharp drop in blood pressure.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience new, severe chest pain, which could be a heart attack (sometimes leading to death).
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, dizziness, low blood pressure, full-body itching, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, or throat, as these could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
