How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine the correct dose for you based on your age, weight, and health.

Method

The medicine is given as a drip directly into a vein.

Important

The doctor will decide the maximum daily amount, but the infusion rate usually should not be faster than 500 ml per hour.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Nerve cell damage (central pontine myelinolysis)
  • Too much fluid in the body (hypervolemia)
  • High sodium levels in the blood, especially with heart or kidney failure
  • Too much acid or high chloride levels in the body from fast infusion
  • Fever, infection, pain, irritation or inflammation at the injection site, or solution leaking outside the vein

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to sodium chloride or any other ingredient in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have too much sodium or chloride in your blood, or too much fluid in your body.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, fluid buildup in your body or lungs, low potassium, too much acid in your body, or if you are pregnant and have high blood pressure with protein in your urine (pre-eclampsia).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition where your body produces too much aldosterone or if you are taking corticosteroid medicines.
