How to Use

Dosage

This medicine is given as an infusion directly into a vein, usually in your arm.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Tremor
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Local pain or reaction (redness and swelling) at the injection site
  • Irritation and inflammation of the vein (phlebitis), causing redness, pain, burning sensation, and swelling along the vein
  • Blood clot (thrombosis) at the infusion site, causing pain, swelling, or redness around the clot
  • Leakage of infusion fluid into surrounding tissues (extravasation), which can damage tissue and cause scarring
  • Abnormally high blood volume (hypervolemia)
  • Itching at the infusion site (urticaria)
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Abnormally high blood sodium (hypernatremia)
  • Abnormally low blood sodium (hyponatremia)
  • Blood acidification with higher than normal chloride levels (hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you have unusually high levels of chloride or sodium in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, kidney problems, too much acid in your blood (acidosis), high blood pressure, fluid buildup in your body (edema), or liver disease.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a condition that causes high levels of a hormone called vasopressin in your body, which can increase the risk of low blood sodium and serious brain swelling.
  • Do not use this medicine if the solution has particles or if the package is damaged.
