Nasonex nasal spray helps reduce swelling and irritation in your nose, making it easier to breathe and stopping sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. It treats hay fever, year-round allergies, and nasal polyps.

How to Use

Dosage

For most adults and children over 12: two sprays in each nostril once a day. For children aged 3 to 11: one spray in each nostril once a day.

Method

Shake the bottle well and take off the cap. Gently blow your nose. Close one nostril, put the spray tip into the other, and tilt your head slightly forward. Spray once while breathing in slowly through your nose. Breathe out through your mouth. Then do the same for the other nostril.

Important

Do not use more than two sprays in each nostril twice a day (this means a total of four sprays in each nostril per day).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Sneezing
  • Nosebleeds
  • Soreness or irritation in the nose or throat
  • Sores inside the nose
  • Chest infection
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (like swelling of your face, tongue, or throat; trouble swallowing; itchy skin rash called hives; or wheezing/trouble breathing)
  • Higher pressure in the eyes (glaucoma) or cloudy areas in the eye (cataracts), which can affect your eyesight
  • Damage to the wall that separates your nostrils
  • Changes in how things taste or smell

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Nasonex if you are allergic to mometasone furoate or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not use if you have an untreated infection in your nose, especially one like herpes. Wait until the infection has cleared before using.
  • Do not use if you have recently had nose surgery or a nose injury that has not yet healed.
  • Talk to your doctor if your immune system is weak (you get infections easily) or if you've been near someone with measles or chickenpox. You should try to avoid contact with people who have these illnesses.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other steroid medicines, either by mouth or by injection.
