How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your condition; a common starting dose for adults is 500 mg, followed by 250 mg every 6–8 hours as needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, either with or after food. The tablet can be divided in half.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor or continue treatment longer than recommended.

  • Worsening of bowel diseases (like Crohn's or ulcerative colitis)
  • Difficulty breathing or chest tightness (allergic reaction)
  • Sudden swelling of face, throat, hands, or feet (allergic reaction)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Fatigue and loss of appetite (liver problems)
  • Severe skin rash with blisters or peeling
  • Skin rash when exposed to sunlight (porphyria cutanea tarda)
  • Red, swollen, round skin patches (fixed drug eruption)
  • Widespread rash with fever, high liver enzymes, and swollen lymph nodes (DRESS)
  • Chest pain spreading to neck, shoulders, and left arm (heart attack)
  • Muscle weakness or numbness on one side of the body (stroke)
  • Sudden changes in senses (smell, taste, hearing, vision), confusion (stroke)
  • Fever, stiff neck, headache, sensitivity to light, confusion (meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to naproxen, acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), or other NSAID painkillers.
  • Do not take if you have or have had serious stomach or intestinal problems, such as ulcers or bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart, liver, or kidney failure.
  • Do not take during the last three months of pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant earlier or planning pregnancy.
  • Stop use immediately and contact a doctor if you develop severe skin reactions, such as blisters or peeling skin.
