How to Use

Dosage

Adults: Typically 500-1000 mg per day, taken as one or two doses.

Method

Take the tablets with a glass of water, preferably with or after food, and remember to drink enough fluids.

Important

Generally, no more than 1000 mg per day, but a doctor may allow up to 1250 mg for a short period, for example, for menstrual pain.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Heartburn, stomach pain, or bloating
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Headache, dizziness, or fatigue
  • Difficulty falling asleep or sleep problems
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Swelling (fluid retention), especially if you have high blood pressure
  • Bleeding in the skin or mucous membranes
  • Mild depression
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, such as severe shortness of breath, facial swelling, or rash.
  • Serious stomach or intestinal problems, such as severe stomach pain, bloody vomit, black stools, or ulcers.
  • Heart attack (chest pain) or stroke.
  • Liver problems, such as severe fatigue or yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.
  • Vision or hearing problems.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as widespread blistering rash or mouth sores.
  • Kidney problems, such as kidney failure or blood in the urine.
  • Changes in blood counts, such as anemia or low white blood cell count.
  • Asthma attacks or lung inflammation.
  • Muscle pain or muscle weakness.
  • Fever, chills, or general unwellness.
  • Pancreatitis or erythema nodosum (skin inflammation).
  • Female infertility.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to naproxen or other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you have had asthma attacks, swelling, or rash after taking other pain relievers (NSAIDs), do not use this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had repeated stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart disease.
  • Do not use during the last three months of pregnancy.

  • This medicine may slightly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with high doses.
  • Avoid use if you have chickenpox.
  • Stop use immediately and contact a doctor if you have stomach bleeding, vision or hearing problems, or severe skin reactions.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other medicines, such as blood thinners or corticosteroids.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects.
