How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose and how often you receive it, based on your condition and weight. Treatment usually starts slowly and can be sped up if tolerated.

Method

Nanogam is given as an intravenous infusion (a drip into a vein).

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 2 grams per kilogram of body weight, but your doctor will determine the exact dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, such as rash, redness, or itching
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Hives, blisters, or skin peeling
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Muscle pain
  • General malaise (tiredness, chills, fever, flu-like symptoms)
  • Inflammation of the membranes protecting the brain and spinal cord (aseptic meningitis)
  • Kidney failure or increased creatinine levels
  • Breakdown of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia)
  • Vomiting
  • Joint pain
RARE
  • Low white blood cell count (leukopenia, neutropenia)
  • Migraine
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations
  • Rapid heart rate
  • High blood pressure
  • Low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea
  • Excessive sweating
  • Severe allergic reaction, which may include a sudden drop in blood pressure, dizziness, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, itching, hives, and difficulty breathing.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, leg pain, or severe headache (may indicate heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, or deep vein thrombosis).
  • Severe breathing difficulties with fever (known as TRALI reaction).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Nanogam if you are allergic to immunoglobulins or any other ingredient in this medicine, such as glucose (if you have a corn allergy).
  • Do not use if you have an IgA deficiency with anti-IgA antibodies, as Nanogam contains a small amount of IgA which can cause an allergic reaction.
  • Tell your doctor if you have uncontrolled diabetes or high blood sugar, as Nanogam contains glucose.
  • You will be closely monitored during and after the infusion for side effects. Report any side effects to your doctor immediately.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe breathing difficulties and fever within 1-6 hours of treatment.

  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to be vaccinated or have recently been vaccinated, as Nanogam can reduce the effectiveness of some vaccines.
