How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 60 mg, 90 mg, or 120 mg per injection, given every 28, 42, or 56 days.

Method

This medicine is given as a deep injection under the skin. A healthcare professional or trained person will give it in your upper buttock. If you give it yourself, inject into the outer upper thigh.

Important

There is no daily maximum dose as this medicine is given every 28 to 56 days; the maximum single injection dose is 120 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea, loose stools, stomach pain, feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), constipation, gas, bloating, upset stomach.
  • Gallstones or other gallbladder problems (signs can be sudden severe stomach pain, high fever, yellow skin or eyes, chills); enlarged bile ducts (signs can be stomach pain, nausea, yellow skin or eyes, fever).
  • Weight loss, feeling very tired or weak, low energy, not feeling hungry, slow heartbeat.
  • Dizziness, headache.
  • Hair loss or less body hair.
  • Muscle, joint, or bone pain.
  • Pain or hardening at the injection site.
  • Unusual results in liver or pancreas tests, changes in blood sugar.
RARE
  • Hot flashes, trouble sleeping, changes in salt (sodium) or alkaline phosphatase levels in blood tests.
  • Change in stool color.
  • Sudden severe pain in the lower stomach (may be a sign of inflamed pancreas).
  • Swelling at the injection site that feels like fluid when pressed, with redness, pain, warmth, and possibly fever.
  • Gallbladder inflammation (sudden, strong pain in upper right or middle stomach, possibly spreading to shoulder or back, tender stomach, feeling sick, throwing up, high fever).
  • Bile duct inflammation (upper right stomach pain, fever, chills, yellow skin or eyes, feeling sick, throwing up, clay-colored stools, dark urine, feeling tired).

Important Warnings

  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe allergic reaction (signs include facial swelling, trouble breathing, chest tightness, or feeling faint).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or if you experience increased thirst, tiredness, or dry mouth, as these can be signs of high blood sugar.
  • Watch for signs of low blood sugar, such as feeling hungry, shaky, sweaty, or confused, and tell your doctor if they occur.
  • Inform your doctor if you have gallstones, as this medicine can cause new ones or worsen existing ones.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems, as this medicine can slightly affect your thyroid function.
