How to Use
Dosage
The recommended daily dose is 1440 mg, usually taken in two separate doses. The first dose of 720 mg should be taken within 72 hours after kidney transplant.
Method
Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not split, crush, or take broken tablets.
Important
Your daily dose should not exceed 1440 mg.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Low white blood cell count
- •Anemia, which can cause tiredness and paleness
- •Low platelet count, which can cause bruising and bleeding
- •High blood pressure
- •Diarrhea
- •Headache
- •Dizziness
- •Cough
- •Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or gas
- •Swollen hands, ankles, or feet
- •Joint or muscle pain
- •Fatigue, fever
- •Itching
- •Respiratory tract infections
RARE
- •Fast or irregular heartbeat, fluid in the lungs
- •Lumps or cysts on the skin
- •Red and swollen eyes, blurred vision
- •Bowel blockage, mouth sores, heartburn, pancreatitis
- •Hair loss
- •Flu-like symptoms (chills, sore throat, joint or muscle aches)
Important Warnings
- Mycophenolate can cause birth defects and miscarriages. Women who can get pregnant must take a pregnancy test before starting treatment and use effective birth control during treatment and for 6 weeks after stopping.
- Myfortic weakens your skin's defense against the sun and increases the risk of skin cancer. Protect yourself from sunlight with clothes and high-SPF sunscreen.
- Myfortic treatment weakens your immune system, increasing your risk of infections. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop fever, sore throat, chills, or unusual bruising or bleeding.
- Do not stop taking Myfortic on your own. Stopping treatment may increase the risk of your transplanted organ being rejected.
- Do not donate blood during Myfortic treatment or for 6 weeks after stopping. Men should not donate sperm during Myfortic treatment or for 90 days after stopping.
