How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical daily dose is 8 to 12 capsules, divided into two doses (e.g., 4 to 6 capsules in the morning and 4 to 6 capsules in the evening), depending on your transplant type.

Method

Swallow capsules whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush, or use broken capsules.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is typically 12 capsules (3 grams) for heart or liver transplants, taken as 6 capsules in the morning and 6 in the evening. For kidney transplants, it's 8 capsules (2 grams) daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Low counts of white or red blood cells
  • Infections
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling sleepy
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Rash or itching
  • Swelling (e.g., in legs or hands)
RARE
  • Rare types of cancer, like lymphoma or skin cancer.

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause birth defects and miscarriage. If you are a woman who can become pregnant, you must use effective contraception and have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment.
  • This medicine weakens your immune system, which increases your risk of skin cancer. Limit sun exposure and use protective clothing and high-SPF sunscreen.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 2 years of age.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you have signs of infection (fever, sore throat), unusual bruising or bleeding, or severe allergic reactions (swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing).
