How to Use
Dosage
The usual starting dose is 500 micrograms. Do not increase the dose yourself; talk to your doctor if it's not enough.
Method
Muse is used with a single-use applicator, which puts the medicine into your urethra (the tube urine comes out of). Your doctor will show you how to use it.
Important
Do not use more than two doses per 24 hours or more than seven doses per week.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Burning sensation in the urethra.
- •Pain in the penis.
- •Headache.
- •Dizziness.
- •Muscle cramps.
- •Low blood pressure.
- •Minor bleeding from the urethra.
- •Pain in the testicles.
- •Burning or itching in partner's vagina.
- •Bruising on the penis.
- •Increased erection.
- •Peyronie's disease (a condition causing pain, abnormal curvature, shortening, or narrowing of the penis).
RARE
- •Fainting or feeling dizzy.
- •Decreased or increased sensitivity.
- •Swelling of leg veins.
- •Leg pain.
- •Cold-like symptoms.
- •Pain in the perineum (area between penis and anus).
- •Increased heart rate.
- •Widening of blood vessels and a drop in blood pressure, which can make you feel dizzy.
- •Vascular problems, such as venous bleeding.
- •Nausea.
- •Skin rash that may be itchy or red.
- •Increased sweating.
- •Increased or more frequent urge to urinate.
- •Painful or difficult urination.
- •Blood in the urine.
- •Increased creatinine levels in the blood.
- •Priapism (a prolonged erection).
- •Redness, swelling, or pain in the testicles or scrotum; lumps may form (spermatocele, which are cysts containing sperm). Penis may feel numb.
- •Uncomfortable or painful erection, or no erection at all.
- •Changes in ejaculation.
- •Swelling or narrowing of the foreskin, or swelling at the tip of the penis.
- •Urinary tract infection.
- •Penis problems like scarring, bending, or kinking, especially with long-term use.
- •Red or white itchy spots (hives).
Important Warnings
- You are allergic to alprostadil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- Your penis has an abnormal shape, for example, it is bent or severely curved.
- You have a penis condition like Peyronie's disease.
- You have inflammation in your penis or urethra (the tube urine comes out of).
- You have a blood disorder like sickle cell anemia, leukemia, multiple myeloma, too many platelets, or too many red blood cells.

- You are prone to blood clots (a clot in a blood vessel).
- You have had long-lasting erections before.
- Your doctor has advised you not to have sex due to health reasons, such as heart problems or a recent stroke.
- You have a bleeding disorder, as incorrect use can cause bleeding in the urethra.
- You have a blood-borne disease, as using Muse could spread it to your partner.
- You have a heart or lung disease, or chest symptoms (be cautious during sexual activity).
- You have a history of mental illness or addiction.
- You have had a mini-stroke (TIA) before.
- You have a penile implant.
- Your erections last for 4 hours or longer.
- Muse does not protect you or your partner from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Always use a condom.
