How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 0.1 ml per kilogram (kg) of body weight.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection into a vein, usually in your arm, right before your MRI scan.

Important

You will receive one dose at a time. The next dose should only be given after at least 7 days, if necessary.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea

  • Dizziness
  • Tingling sensation
  • Changes in taste
  • Changes in blood pressure or heart rhythm, redness of the skin
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth
  • Itching, skin rash, hives
  • Reactions at the injection site such as pain, burning, warmth, cold, redness, itching, or discomfort.
  • Unusual results in lab tests for heart, liver, blood, or urine function.
  • Severe allergic reaction with breathing difficulties or dizziness
  • Fainting, shaking, seizures, or sensing abnormal smells
  • Reduced sensitivity to touch, pain, or other stimuli
  • Vision problems
  • Reduced blood flow to the heart, slow heartbeat
  • Fluid in the lungs, shortness of breath, wheezing, throat spasms, irritated and swollen nasal lining, cough
  • Increased saliva production, stomach pain
  • Swelling of the face
  • Muscle pain
  • Chest pain, feeling weak, chills, general feeling of being unwell
  • Changes in blood test results
  • Chest pain radiating to the neck or left arm, which could be a sign of a severe allergic reaction (Kounis syndrome).
  • Severe allergic shock.
  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Eye inflammation.
  • Cardiac arrest.
  • Blue discoloration of skin and mucous membranes.
  • Difficulty breathing, stopped breathing, swollen throat, lack of oxygen, wheezing.
  • Swelling of the mouth.
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face or throat.
  • Swelling and blisters at the injection site.
  • Vein inflammation caused by blood clots.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use MultiHance if you are allergic to gadobenate dimeglumine or any other ingredients, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to similar contrast agents before.
  • Tell your doctor if your kidneys do not work well or if you have recently had or will soon have a liver transplant.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy, a brain injury, a pacemaker, or metal implants in your body (like screws or plates), as these can interfere with the MRI scan.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 2 years of age.
