How to Use

Dosage

Start with 0.2 mg once daily in the morning. After 3 weeks, your doctor may increase it to 0.4 mg daily, taken either once in the morning or split into two doses (morning and evening). If your kidneys don't work well, the maximum single dose is 0.2 mg and maximum daily dose is 0.4 mg.

Method

Take the tablets with enough water. You can take them before, during, or after a meal.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 0.6 mg, split into two doses (morning and evening). Do not take more than 0.4 mg as a single dose. For patients with kidney problems, the maximum daily dose is 0.4 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Changes in thinking
  • Trouble sleeping (including insomnia)
  • Stomach problems (like nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion)
  • Rash, itching
  • Feeling weak (asthenia)
  • Back pain
  • Widening of blood vessels
RARE
  • Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety, nervousness
  • Feeling numb or dull (sedation)
  • Allergic skin reactions, tissue swelling (edema) in different body parts
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling, especially of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Tingling sensation (pins and needles) in arms and legs
  • Fluid retention
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Pain in salivary glands
  • Neck pain
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Impotence and reduced sexual desire
  • Peripheral circulatory problems
  • Dry, itchy, or burning eyes

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to moxonidine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain severe heart problems, such as specific heart rhythm disorders (like sick sinus syndrome, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block), a very slow heartbeat (under 50 beats per minute at rest), or heart failure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have other heart conditions like 1st degree AV block, severe coronary artery disease, unstable angina pectoris, or moderate heart failure.
  • If your kidneys do not work well, your doctor will carefully adjust your dose.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 16 years old.

  • Do not take this medicine together with certain antidepressant medicines called tricyclic antidepressants.
  • If you are also taking beta-blockers, your doctor will tell you to stop the beta-blockers first before gradually stopping Moxonidin Stada to prevent a sudden increase in blood pressure.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or operate machines if you experience these effects.
  • Avoid alcohol while you are taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include orthostatism, headache, drowsiness and sleep disorders. Potentiates the effect of CNS depressants. (updated 19.5.2025)
