How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is one 400 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of liquid, with or without food, trying to take it around the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of one 400 mg tablet.

  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Hallucinations or confusion
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Swelling of hands, feet, or face
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Memory loss or trouble concentrating
  • Hearing loss
  • Fainting
  • Severe allergic reaction with symptoms like chest tightness or trouble breathing
  • Severe liver damage
  • Seizures
  • Depression, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm
  • Tendon inflammation or tear
  • Worsening of a muscle weakness condition (myasthenia gravis)
  • Bulging or tear in a major blood vessel (aortic aneurysm or dissection)
  • Kidney problems (e.g., changes in urine, swelling in legs)
  • Nerve damage (e.g., pain, burning, tingling, numbness, weakness in limbs)
  • Severe bloody or mucus-filled diarrhea (colitis)
  • Changes in blood sugar levels (high or low)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to moxifloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had tendon problems with other quinolone antibiotics before.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a very slow heartbeat, a weak heart, or other serious heart rhythm problems.
  • If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar often as this medicine can change it. Tell your doctor about any changes.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you get a severe skin rash with blisters or peeling, or yellowing of the skin/eyes.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor if you have sudden severe pain in your stomach, chest, or back, as this could be a serious blood vessel issue.
  • Avoid strong sunlight and sunbeds during treatment, as this medicine makes your skin more sensitive to light.
  • If you experience nerve problems like pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness in your arms or legs, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor right away.
  • If you have severe diarrhea with blood or mucus, stop the medicine and contact your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicines.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or temporary vision loss. Do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
  • It is important to finish the entire course of treatment, even if you feel better, to prevent the infection from returning.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose and/or increase the dosing interval in moderately severe renal impairment. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Increases the risk of tendinitis and aortic injury and valvular heart disease. Consider central nervous system adverse effects, especially lowered seizure threshold and confusion. (updated 4.12.2023)
