How to Use

Dosage

One 400 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of liquid, with or without food. Try to take it at about the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed the recommended dose of one 400 mg tablet per day.

  • Ringing in the ears
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes
  • Decreased skin sensitivity to touch
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Impaired concentration
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Changes or loss of smell
  • Balance or coordination problems
  • Partial or complete memory loss
  • Hearing loss
  • Mood changes
  • Speech difficulties
  • Fainting
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Severe drop in specific white blood cells
  • Drop in red and white blood cells and platelets
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight or UV light
  • Severe skin reactions with blisters and peeling
  • Increased pressure in the head (with headache and vision issues)
  • Increased blood sodium
  • Increased blood calcium
  • Hemolytic anemia (a certain type of low red blood cells)
  • Long-lasting nerve pain or weakness (neuropathy)
  • Aortic problems (like widening or tears in a main blood vessel)
  • Heart valve leaks

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to moxifloxacin or other similar antibiotics (quinolones).
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years old.
  • If you have had severe side effects from quinolone antibiotics before, tell your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, including irregular or very slow heartbeat, or heart failure, as this medicine can affect your heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease.

  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you feel pain in your tendons, muscles, or joints, or have difficulty walking.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you experience mental health changes, like feeling sad, anxious, or having thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you have severe, watery diarrhea with blood or mucus.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you get a severe allergic reaction, such as chest tightness, dizziness, nausea, or fainting.
  • Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away if you develop serious skin rashes, blisters, or peeling skin.
  • See an eye doctor immediately if your vision gets worse or you have other eye problems during treatment.
  • Avoid long exposure to sunlight or UV light (like sunbeds) as this medicine can make your skin more sensitive.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as this medicine can affect your blood sugar levels.
  • If you have sudden severe pain in your stomach, chest, or back, seek emergency medical help immediately, as these could be signs of a serious problem with a main blood vessel (aorta).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose and/or increase the dosing interval in moderately severe renal impairment. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Increases the risk of tendinitis and aortic injury and valvular heart disease. Consider central nervous system adverse effects, especially lowered seizure threshold and confusion. (updated 4.12.2023)
