How to Use

Dosage

Adults should receive one bag (400 mg/250 ml) once daily.

Method

This medicine is given into a vein (intravenously) by a doctor or nurse over 60 minutes.

Important

Do not exceed one bag per day. The recommended dose should not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Yeast infections (like in the mouth or vagina) from resistant bacteria or fungi.
  • Headache, feeling dizzy.
  • Feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), stomach or belly pain, diarrhea.
  • Increase in certain liver enzymes shown in blood tests.
  • Pain or inflammation where the medicine was injected.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling (face, throat), trouble breathing, fast heartbeat, or very low blood pressure.
  • Severe liver inflammation or liver failure, with symptoms like yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, itching, or confusion.
  • Seizures or fits.
  • Mental health problems (anxiety, depression, confusion, suicidal thoughts) or brain problems like memory loss, or hallucinations.
  • Pain, swelling, inflammation, or rupture of tendons, as well as joint pain, muscle weakness, or muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) leading to dark urine.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, or other serious heart rhythm changes.
  • Serious skin rashes (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, DRESS) with widespread redness, blisters, peeling skin, and sores, sometimes with fever.
  • Nerve damage causing pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness in your arms or legs.
  • Changes in your blood tests, such as abnormal levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets.
  • Blood sugar levels that are too high or too low, sometimes causing you to faint.
  • Problems with vision (blurred, double vision, temporary loss, light sensitivity) or hearing (ringing in ears, temporary loss).
  • Kidney problems, including reduced urine output or kidney failure.
  • Swelling of your hands, feet, ankles, lips, mouth, or throat.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to moxifloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are under 18 years old.
  • Do not use if you have had severe reactions to other quinolone antibiotics in the past.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you experience tendon pain or swelling, as this medicine can cause tendon issues, including rupture.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a history of heart rhythm problems, slow heartbeat, heart failure, or are taking other medicines that affect heart rhythm.
  • Stop treatment and seek immediate medical help if you experience a severe allergic reaction (chest tightness, dizziness, nausea, fainting, swelling of the face/throat).
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you develop yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, itching, easy bleeding, or confusion, as these can be signs of severe liver problems.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you have a seizure.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you experience depression, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health problems.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you feel pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness in your arms or legs, as these can be signs of nerve damage.
  • Stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately if you have severe or bloody diarrhea.
  • Seek emergency medical help immediately if you experience sudden severe pain in your abdomen, chest, or back, as these could be signs of a serious problem with your aorta.
  • Contact your doctor without delay if you experience sudden shortness of breath, swelling in your ankles, feet, or abdomen, or new palpitations, as these can be signs of heart valve issues.
  • Contact an eye specialist immediately if your vision worsens or you have other eye problems during treatment.
  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar carefully as this medicine can cause high or low blood sugar, potentially leading to unconsciousness.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or strong UV light, including sunbeds, during treatment, as this medicine can increase your skin's sensitivity to light.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose and/or increase the dosing interval in moderately severe renal impairment. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Increases the risk of tendinitis and aortic injury and valvular heart disease. Consider central nervous system adverse effects, especially lowered seizure threshold and confusion. (updated 4.12.2023)
