How to Use

Dosage

For regular constipation: 1 sachet. For very bad constipation (faecal impaction): 8 sachets per day.

Method

Mix 1 sachet with half a glass (125 ml) of water and drink. For faecal impaction, you can mix 8 sachets in 1 liter of water.

Important

For regular constipation: 1 to 3 sachets per day. For very bad constipation (faecal impaction): 8 sachets within 6 hours. If you have heart problems, do not take more than 2 sachets per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach upset or pain
  • Rumbling in the stomach
  • Feeling bloated or having gas
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Mild diarrhea
  • Discomfort around the bottom (anal discomfort)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching, red skin, or hives)
  • Swelling of your hands, feet, or ankles
  • Headache
  • Potassium levels in your blood that are too low or too high
  • Very serious allergic reaction (trouble breathing, dizziness, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat) - If this happens, stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Movicol Chocolate if you have a bowel blockage, a hole in your bowel, a severe inflammatory bowel disease (like severe colon swelling or Crohn's disease), or if you are allergic to any part of this medicine.
  • Drink a lot of other liquids while taking Movicol Chocolate. The liquid in this medicine does not count as your normal daily fluid intake.
  • Some other medicines, like those for epilepsy, might not work as well when you take Movicol Chocolate. Do not take other medicines by mouth one hour before or one hour after taking Movicol Chocolate.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
  • Movicol Chocolate has benzyl alcohol. This can cause allergic reactions. If you have liver or kidney problems, or are pregnant/breastfeeding, talk to your doctor because too much can build up in your body.
