Method

Empty one sachet into a glass. Add about 125 ml (half a glass) of water. Stir until the powder is fully dissolved and the solution looks clear or slightly cloudy, then drink it.

Important

For very bad constipation (faecal impaction), take 8 sachets within 6 hours. Do not take more than 2 sachets per hour if you have heart problems. This treatment can last up to 3 days.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • A severe allergic reaction that makes it hard to breathe or causes swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Movicol and get help right away.
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching, red skin, or hives, swollen hands, feet, or ankles).
  • Headache.
  • Too little or too much potassium in your blood.
COMMON
  • Upset stomach or stomach pain.
  • Stomach rumbling or bloating.
  • Gas, feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting).
  • Pain around your bottom or mild diarrhoea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Movicol if your doctor has told you that you have a blocked bowel, a hole in your bowel wall, a serious bowel disease (like ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), or if you are allergic to any of Movicol's ingredients.
  • Keep drinking plenty of other fluids when you use Movicol, as the liquid in Movicol does not replace your normal daily fluid intake.
  • Movicol can make some other medicines (like epilepsy medicine) work less well. Do not take other medicines by mouth one hour before, at the same time as, or one hour after taking Movicol.
  • If you need to thicken your drinks to swallow them safely, Movicol might stop the thickener from working properly.
  • If you take 3 or more sachets daily for a long time, especially if you are on a low-salt diet, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
