How to Use

Dosage

For bladder infections in women and young women: 1 sachet (3 g). For preventing infection during prostate biopsy in adult men: 1 sachet (3 g) 3 hours before the procedure and another sachet (3 g) 24 hours after the procedure.

Method

Take by mouth on an empty stomach (2-3 hours before or after a meal), preferably at bedtime after emptying your bladder. Dissolve the contents of one sachet in a glass of water and drink right away.

Important

Do not take more than 1 sachet (3 g) per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

  • Female genital infection (e.g., inflammation, irritation, itching of the vulva and vagina)
RARE
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin)
  • Itching
  • Allergic reactions (less severe)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Monuril if you are allergic to fosfomycin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ongoing bladder infections or have had diarrhea after taking other antibiotics.
  • This medicine is not for children under 12 years old.
  • Do not use Monuril if you have severe kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially metoclopramide (for nausea) or blood thinners, as they can interact with Monuril.

  • Monuril can cause dizziness, which might affect your ability to drive or use machines.
  • If you get severe diarrhea with stomach cramps, bloody stools, and/or fever, stop taking Monuril and contact your doctor immediately. This could be a serious bowel infection.
  • If you experience sudden rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing, stop Monuril and seek urgent medical help. These could be signs of a life-threatening allergic reaction.
