How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one sachet of Montelukast Organon granules, taken orally once daily in the evening.

Method

Give the granules directly into the mouth or mix with a spoonful of cold or room-temperature soft food (like applesauce or yogurt). Make sure the full dose is eaten within 15 minutes. Do not dissolve in liquid.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one sachet (4 mg) per day. Do not take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Increased liver enzymes (shown in blood tests)
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Thirst
  • Hyperactivity
  • Flaking and itching skin
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Mood and behavior changes, such as anxiety, aggressive behavior, or depression
  • Seizures
  • Increased bleeding tendency
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • A combination of symptoms like flu-like illness, tingling or numbness in arms/legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome)
  • Low number of platelets in the blood
  • Severe mood and behavior changes such as hallucinations, confusion, suicidal thoughts or actions
  • Swelling (inflammation) in the lungs
  • Severe skin reactions that can appear suddenly, such as a rash with red or purple spots (erythema multiforme)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Unusual dreams, including nightmares, trouble sleeping, sleepwalking
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Nosebleeds
  • Dry mouth, indigestion
  • Bruising, itching, hives
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Bedwetting in children
  • Weakness/tiredness, general unwell feeling, swelling
  • Attention problems, memory loss, involuntary muscle movements
  • Red, tender lumps under the skin, usually on the shins (erythema nodosum)
  • Obsessive-compulsive symptoms, stuttering

Important Warnings

  • Do not give this medicine if your child is allergic to montelukast or any other ingredients.
  • Contact your doctor right away if your child's asthma gets worse or they have trouble breathing.
  • This medicine is not for sudden asthma attacks. Always carry your child's quick-relief inhaler.
  • It's important that your child keeps taking all other asthma medicines prescribed by their doctor. This medicine should not replace other asthma treatments.
  • Seek medical attention if your child gets a flu-like illness, tingling or numbness in arms/legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or rash.

  • Do not give aspirin or other anti-inflammatory pain relievers (NSAIDs) if they make your child's asthma worse.
  • Tell your doctor if you notice any changes in your child's mood or behavior, such as anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts/actions, while taking this medicine.
  • Do not give this medicine to children younger than 6 months.
