How to Use

Dosage

One 10 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth in the evening, with or without food, every day even if you have no symptoms.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 10 mg tablet. Do not take more than your doctor prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory tract infection (cold, sore throat)
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Vomiting (being sick)
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Elevated liver enzymes (in blood tests)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Behavior and mood changes, such as anxiety, aggressive behavior, depression, sleep problems (nightmares, sleepwalking), irritability, restlessness, suicidal thoughts and actions, hallucinations, confusion, memory problems, difficulty concentrating, tics, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, stuttering.
  • Seizures (convulsions).
  • Increased bleeding tendency (easier bruising or bleeding).
  • Tremors.
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat).
  • A syndrome with flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in arms and legs, worsening lung problems, and/or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome).
  • Low platelet count (in blood tests).
  • Lung swelling (inflammation in the lungs).
  • Severe skin reactions (red patches, erythema multiforme).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Dizziness.
  • Drowsiness.
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Bruising, itching, hives.
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps.
  • Bedwetting in children.
  • Weakness/fatigue, general feeling of being unwell, swelling.
  • Tender, red lumps under the skin (erythema nodosum).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to montelukast or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If your asthma gets worse or your breathing becomes difficult, tell your doctor right away.
  • This medicine is not for sudden asthma attacks; always carry your quick-relief asthma medicine.
  • Do not stop taking your other asthma medicines without talking to your doctor.
  • If you get flu-like symptoms, tingling in your limbs, worsening lung symptoms, or a rash, contact your doctor.

  • Avoid aspirin or other anti-inflammatory pain relievers if they make your asthma worse.
  • If you notice any changes in behavior or mood, such as anxiety, depression, or thoughts of self-harm, contact your doctor immediately.
  • This 10 mg tablet is not recommended for children under 15 years of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Consider possibility of adverse neuropsychiatric effects. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
