How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for children aged 6-14 years is one 5 mg chewable tablet once a day in the evening.

Method

Chew the tablet before swallowing. Do not take it immediately with food; take it at least one hour before eating or two hours after eating.

Important

Do not take more than one 5 mg chewable tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Increased liver enzymes
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause trouble breathing or swallowing.
  • Mood and behavior changes such as anxiety, aggression, depression, seizures, unusual dreams or nightmares, trouble sleeping, sleepwalking, irritability, restlessness, hallucinations, confusion, suicidal thoughts, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, stuttering, problems with attention or memory, or involuntary muscle movements.
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling or numbness in arms or legs.
  • Nosebleed
  • Dry mouth, indigestion
  • Bruising, itching, hives
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Bedwetting in children
  • Weakness, fatigue, general feeling of being unwell, swelling.
  • Increased bleeding tendency
  • Tremor
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • A combination of symptoms such as flu-like illness, tingling or numbness in arms or legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome).
  • Low number of blood platelets (cells that help blood clot).
  • Swelling (inflammation) in the lungs.
  • Severe skin reactions, like a widespread red rash with blisters (erythema multiforme).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Painful red lumps under the skin, usually on the lower legs (erythema nodosum).

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor right away if your or your child's asthma gets worse or breathing becomes difficult.
  • This medicine is not for sudden asthma attacks; always use your rescue inhaler for attacks.
  • Do not stop taking other asthma medicines prescribed by your doctor. Montelukast Krka does not replace them.
  • If aspirin or NSAID pain relievers make your asthma worse, do not use them while taking this medicine.
  • Some patients taking montelukast have reported mood or behavior changes, depression, or thoughts of harming themselves. Contact your doctor immediately if you or your child experience any such symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
