How to Use

Dosage

One 4 mg chewable tablet once daily.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth in the evening. Chew the tablet before swallowing. Do not take immediately with food; take at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one 4 mg chewable tablet.

  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory infection

  • Elevated liver enzymes
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Behavior and mood changes: anxiety, aggressive behavior, hostility, depression
  • Seizures
  • Unusual dreams, including nightmares, trouble sleeping, sleepwalking, irritability, anxiety, restlessness
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling or numbness
  • Nosebleeds
  • Dry mouth, indigestion
  • Bruising, itching, hives
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Bedwetting in children
  • Weakness/fatigue, feeling unwell, swelling
  • Increased tendency to bleed
  • Tremors
  • Palpitations (fast heartbeat)
  • Attention disturbance, memory impairment, involuntary muscle movements
  • Combination of symptoms like flu, tingling or numbness in arms and legs, worsening lung problems, and/or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome)
  • Low blood platelet count
  • Behavior and mood changes: hallucinations, disorientation, suicidal thoughts and behavior
  • Swelling (inflammation) in the lungs
  • Severe skin reactions (erythema multiforme) that may appear without warning
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Painful red lumps under the skin, most often on the shins (erythema nodosum)
  • Behavior and mood changes: obsessive-compulsive symptoms
  • Stuttering

Important Warnings

  • Do not give Montelukast Krka to your child if they are allergic to montelukast or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor right away if your child's asthma gets worse or if they have difficulty breathing.
  • This medicine is not for treating sudden asthma attacks. Always carry your child's rescue inhaler for asthma attacks.
  • It is important that your child takes all asthma medicines prescribed by the doctor. Montelukast Krka should not replace other asthma medicines.
  • Contact your doctor if your child develops flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in arms or legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or rash while taking asthma medication.

  • Do not use medicines containing aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs if they worsen your child's asthma.
  • Behavior and mood changes, depression, and suicidal thoughts have been reported. Contact your doctor if your child experiences any of these symptoms while taking Montelukast Krka.
  • Do not give this medicine to children younger than 2 years old.
  • If your child is taking Montelukast Krka, make sure they are not taking any other medicines that contain montelukast.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Consider possibility of adverse neuropsychiatric effects. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.2.2025)
