Montelukast Accord helps control asthma and seasonal allergy symptoms by blocking natural substances called leukotrienes, which cause airway constriction and inflammation.

How to Use

Dosage

One 10 mg tablet.

Method

Take orally once daily in the evening, with or without food.

Important

Maximum one 10 mg tablet per day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Elevated liver enzymes
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing)
  • Anxiety, aggressive behavior, hostility, depression, irritability, restlessness
  • Seizures
  • Increased bleeding tendency
  • Tremor
  • Palpitations
  • Churg-Strauss syndrome symptoms (flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in limbs, worsening lung symptoms, rash)
  • Low blood platelet count
  • Hallucinations, confusion, suicidal thoughts and behavior
  • Swelling (inflammation) in lungs
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., erythema multiforme)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Unusual dreams, including nightmares, insomnia, sleepwalking
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling or numbness
  • Nosebleed
  • Dry mouth, indigestion
  • Bruising, itching, hives
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Bedwetting in children
  • Weakness/fatigue, malaise, swelling
  • Attention disturbance, memory impairment, involuntary muscle jerking
  • Tender red lumps under the skin (erythema nodosum)
  • Obsessive-compulsive symptoms, stuttering

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to montelukast or any other ingredients.
  • If your asthma or breathing gets worse, contact your doctor immediately.
  • This medicine is not for sudden asthma attacks. Always carry your rescue inhaler for asthma attacks.
  • Do not replace other asthma medications prescribed by your doctor with this medicine.
  • If you experience changes in mood or behavior (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts), contact your doctor.

  • If you experience flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in arms or legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or rash, contact your doctor.
  • Avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs if they worsen your asthma.
  • Not for children under 15 years of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
