How to Use

Dosage

For adults, including the elderly, the usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Method

Apply one drop into the lower eyelid pocket of the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening.

Important

Do not use more than one drop per day, as using it more often may make it less effective.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Gradual change in eye color (iris may become more brown).
  • Redness of the eye.
  • Eye irritation (burning, gritty feeling, itching, stinging).
  • Changes in eyelashes (e.g., darker, longer, thicker) and fine hairs around the treated eye.
  • Irritation or damage to the surface of the eye.
  • Eyelid inflammation (blepharitis).
  • Eye pain.
  • Sensitivity to light (photophobia).
  • Inflammation of the eye's lining (conjunctivitis).
RARE
  • Swollen eyelids.
  • Dry eyes.
  • Inflammation or irritation on the eye's surface (keratitis).
  • Blurred vision.
  • Inflammation of the colored part of the eye (uveitis/iritis).
  • Swelling in the back of the eye (macular edema).
  • Skin rash.
  • Chest pain and feeling your heart beat (palpitations).
  • Asthma or trouble breathing.
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Muscle and joint pain.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach, vomiting.
  • Swelling around the eyes (periorbital edema).
  • Eyelashes turning inward or an extra row of eyelashes.
  • Fluid-filled sac in the iris (iris cyst).
  • Skin reactions on eyelids, darkening of eyelid skin.
  • Worsening of asthma symptoms.
  • Severe itching of the skin.
  • Eye infection caused by herpes simplex virus.
  • Worsening of chest pain (angina pectoris) in patients with heart disease; sunken eyes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to latanoprost or any other ingredients in Monoprost eye drops.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are going to have eye surgery or have recently had eye surgery (including cataract surgery).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have other eye problems (like eye pain, irritation, inflammation, or blurred vision).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe or poorly controlled asthma.
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait 15 minutes before putting them back in.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had a herpes simplex virus (HSV) eye infection.
  • Do not use Monoprost if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Monoprost may cause temporary blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear.
