Monopex eye drops contain dexamethasone, a medicine that reduces inflammation, and are used to treat eye inflammation.

How to Use

Dosage

Use one drop in the affected eye 4-6 times a day. For severe cases, you can start with one drop every hour, then reduce to one drop every four hours after improvement.

Method

Wash your hands well. Tilt your head back, gently pull down your lower eyelid, and drop one drop into your eye. Gently press the inner corner of your eye for a few minutes. Throw away the single-dose container after use.

Important

Do not use this medicine for more than 14 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased eye pressure after two weeks of treatment.
  • Eye discomfort, irritation, burning, stinging, itching, and blurred vision after dropping. These effects are usually mild and temporary.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions to one of the ingredients in the eye drops.
  • Delayed healing.
  • Clouding of the eye lens (cataract).
  • Infections.
  • Glaucoma (high eye pressure).
  • Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye's surface).
  • Dilated pupils.
  • Facial swelling.
  • Drooping eyelid.
  • Iris inflammation (uveitis).
  • Corneal calcification (calcium deposits on the eye's surface).
  • Corneal inflammation (crystalline keratopathy).
  • Changes in corneal thickness.
  • Corneal swelling.
  • Corneal ulcer (sore on the eye's surface).
  • Hole in the cornea.
  • Increased hair growth (especially in women).
  • Muscle weakness and wasting.
  • Purple stretch marks on the body.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Irregular or absent menstruation.
  • Changes in body protein and calcium levels.
  • Slowed growth in children and adolescents.
  • Swelling and rounding of the body and face (Cushing's syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have an eye infection caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses (like herpes), or amoebae.
  • Do not use if you have damage to the clear front part of your eye (cornea), such as a hole, sore, or problems with healing.
  • Do not use if you have high eye pressure caused by steroid medicines or if you have glaucoma (a condition with high eye pressure).
  • Do not use if you are allergic to dexamethasone sodium phosphate or any other ingredients in Monopex eye drops.
  • This medicine is only for your eyes; do not inject or swallow it.

  • Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or eyelid to prevent germs from getting in.
  • Your eyes should be checked often while using Monopex, especially for children, the elderly, or if you have an eye infection (in which case, use only with antibiotics).
  • Children should avoid continuous long-term treatment.
  • If you have severe allergic eye inflammation that doesn't get better with usual treatment, use Monopex only for a short time.
  • If you have diabetes, tell your eye doctor.
  • Do not use if you have a red eye that has not been diagnosed by a doctor.
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment with Monopex.
  • Talk to your doctor if you experience swelling and rounding of your body and face (signs of Cushing's syndrome), especially if you stop long-term treatment.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Do not stop treatment suddenly; always ask your doctor for advice if you are considering stopping.

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For temporary use. Start and continue therapy under supervision by an ophthalmologist. Do not use if fungal or viral infection is suspected. (updated 4.12.2023)
