How to Use

Dosage

The exact dose is determined by your doctor based on your iron needs.

Method

Given as an injection or infusion directly into a vein, or into a dialysis machine.

Important

Do not exceed 500 mg for a single bolus injection or 20 mg per kg body weight for a single infusion. The total weekly dose should not exceed 20 mg per kg body weight.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Monofer or any other iron medicine given by injection.
  • Do not use if your anemia is not caused by a lack of iron.
  • Do not use if you have too much iron in your body or your body cannot use iron properly.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems like cirrhosis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a blood infection.

  • If the medicine leaks out of the vein during injection, it can irritate the skin and cause a long-lasting brown stain. Tell your doctor or nurse right away.
  • Monofer is for adults only and should not be given to children or teenagers.
  • Taking Monofer with oral iron medicines can make the oral iron less effective.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had other allergies, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or severe asthma or eczema.
